Visitors are always impressed by the way we make the most of our site and the surrounding area to offer a rich array of opportunities to our pupils.

Colchester High School is not a place to stand still. Over the years we have developed and redeveloped our town centre site to meet the changing needs of our pupils. As a result, visitors are always surprised by the range of facilities on offer behind our handsome Wellesley Road façade.

We have an entire block, for example, dedicated to the performing arts, featuring a dance studio and well-equipped rooms for music and drama. Then there’s our design and technology room, our purpose-built science labs and our delightful loft style art workshop, which is always a big hit on open days. And it takes little imagination to see how our school hall – with its striking staircase and recently installed lighting rail – plays host to a vibrant programme of plays and performances.

Parents and children always love our Reception space, covered outdoor classroom, and interactive Early Years Garden, complete with sandpit, outdoor drawing boards and climbing frame. And the size of our playground – used for everything from netball to cycling proficiency – tends to come as another welcome surprise.

Another advantage of our location is that we can cherry-pick from the best local amenities to provide a broad range of activities. We swim at the Garrison, hold prize-giving ceremonies in the splendour of Moot Hall, and play football, cricket, tennis and more on our local playing fields. The net result is an array of facilities to beat the best.

Return to this page in a few years and it will have changed. We will be using other local facilities and we will have developed our site still further. This is not a school to stand still.
