EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

READY TO BE DIGITAL PIONEERS

At Colchester Prep & High School, we are committed to using technology to enhance learning, foster creativity, and encourage collaboration. Our Digital Literacy Programme equips pupils with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

From coding Beebots in Reception to managing course materials on OneNote in Prep and programming drones in Senior School, pupils are inspired to become the next generation of tech entrepreneurs, digital content creators, and software engineers.

Every pupil from Year 3 to Year 11 has their own 1:1 device, while Nursery to Year 2 pupils use iPads in the classroom.

HOW WE USE TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING

While online learning will not be replacing traditional methods of learning in the classroom and may not be used in every lesson, technology adds great value to the ways in which lessons can be taught and delivered. Key benefits include:

GREATER OWNERSHIP OF LEARNING

In a 1-to-1 environment, pupils take ownership of their learning, using online tools to engage with tasks in ways that suit them. Pupils complete tasks more independently and efficiently through a single, shared digital platform.

PRESENTING WORK IN DIGITAL FORMATS

All pupils are proficient with Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and tools like OneNote, enabling them to organise materials, manage assignments, and receive real-time feedback.

GREATER COLLABORATION

1-to-1 devices foster collaboration by supporting communication and joint problem-solving. Pupils can co-create, edit, and share ideas in a digital workspace, while teachers guide them to use preferred tools to express their knowledge collaboratively.

PERSONALISED LEARNING AND DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION

1-to-1 technology lets pupils access tailored content and assignments, pause or revisit media, and learn at their own pace, using videos, interactive tools, and online resources to meet individual learning needs.

IMPROVED ASSESSMENT THROUGH DIGITAL FEEDBACK

Pupils can receive feedback via digital annotations, voice notes, videos, or online resources. Voice feedback enables a personal, formative dialogue, allowing pupils to respond and demonstrate that they are acting on feedback, which is essential for progress.

EMBRACING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Colchester Prep & High School is proud to be an early adopter of advanced educational technologies, including AS Tracking, Century Tech, Nearpod, and Learning by Questions. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology allows our teachers to keep learning engaging and relevant while identifying and supporting each pupil’s individual needs, enabling fully differentiated lessons.
