Admissions Process

Kate Cryne, our Admission Registrar, explains how the application process usually works and what she can do to help make it as easy as possible.

Step 1

Contact

The best place to start is by contacting me, Kate Cryne, on 01206 217116 for an initial conversation about your child and to check availability in the relevant year group. Alternatively, you can complete our enquiry form, which also gives you the chance to ask for a prospectus and organise a visit to the school.

Step 2

Book a Visit

We hold Open Mornings every term but I’m always happy to arrange a private tour on any day that suits you. You will be shown around all the buildings and facilities and will meet some of the teachers and Heads of Department – it’s a great chance to get a feel for the school and whether it will suit your child. To arrange a visit, please complete our enquiry form or contact me directly.

Step 3

Register

To express your interest in a place at our school, I’ll ask you to complete a registration form and pay a non-returnable £100 registration fee.

Step 4

Taster Day

To see whether Colchester High School is the right choice for your child, we arrange a ‘Taster Day’ at the school. This gives your child the chance to experience a normal school day or Nursery session, meet the children in his or her peer group and get to know the teachers. It also gives us the chance to make an informal assessment of your child within the classroom. That way we can provide the most appropriate education for your child if you choose to take up a place at the school. Occasionally we may ask children to return for a formal assessment before the decision on whether to offer a place is taken.

Step 5

Offer

If the taster session goes well, we will make a formal offer of a place and I will send you all the forms you need to fill in.

Step 6

Completion

If you wish your child to join us at Colchester High School, simply fill in and return the forms together with a £250 acceptance deposit. This will be refunded to you, less any outstanding items and subject to the terms of our contract, at the end of your child’s final term at Colchester High School.

Step 7

Transition

After you accept a place at the school, I will do everything I can to help make sure that your child enjoys the happiest possible start to life here – especially on their first day.

At every step of the way, I’ll be here to answer your questions and guide you through the process. I look forward to getting to know you and your child.
