WELLBEING & PASTORAL CARE

STEAM WITHOUT THE PRESSURE

At Colchester Prep & High School, we believe happy, healthy pupils thrive in a welcoming community. By understanding each child, partnering with families, and offering tailored support alongside physical and mental wellbeing activities, we help them grow into confident, balanced, and resilient individuals.

PASTORAL CARE

Pastoral Care takes many forms at Colchester Prep & High School

A CARING AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY

Our teachers know each child individually, building their confidence to succeed. Pupils receive the support, praise, and encouragement they need to flourish, with every achievement celebrated.

A HOUSE SYSTEM THAT PROMOTES BELONGING

From their first day, pupils join one of our Houses, Saxons, Danes, Romans, or Normans, creating a welcoming environment where they quickly feel part of the school family.

A FOCUS ON DEVELOPING THE WHOLE CHILD

Our broad and balanced PSHE curriculum helps pupils become happy, confident, independent, and responsible contributors to society.

A COMMITMENT TO YOUR CHILD’S WELLBEING

Sport is central to our curriculum, complemented by wellbeing activities such as meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and healthy eating to help pupils manage life’s ups and downs.

Form Tutor and Pastoral Team

EXCELLENT PASTORAL CARE STARTS IN THE CLASSROOM

Our teachers know each child and quickly identify any concerns, supported by pastoral briefings with school leaders, mental health leads, and the Headteacher.

We offer one-to-one or peer mentoring, and our Learning Support team provides practical assistance and a safe space for children needing extra comfort.

Relationships between teachers and pupils are harmonious and positive, creating an environment in which pupils make rapid gains in their learning.

Family Involvement

PARENTS BECOME PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

We keep parents informed and involved through regular progress updates, an open-door policy, engagement groups, surveys, and workshops.

Parents are also invited to school events, sports fixtures, music recitals, drama productions, and art exhibitions to celebrate their child’s achievements.

LEARNING SUPPORT

SUPPORT FOR EVERY PUPIL

If a pupil is struggling, teachers assess the situation and adopt strategies to support individual learning.

The Learning Support Department ensures all pupils have equal access to the curriculum, working with teaching staff either in lessons or in dedicated classrooms.
