Reception had a fantastic morning at Pizza Express! 🍕

They made, kneaded, and stretched their own dough, added toppings, and watched their pizzas cook in the oven at 400°F for 4 minutes. The children learned about hygiene, where their food comes from, and the history of pizza. They asked thoughtful questions, spoke confidently to the chef, and were so polite and well-behaved – a real credit to our school.

Back at school, they enjoyed their creations for lunch… with a little left to share at home 🏠

Well done to all, you should be very proud of yourselves!

Call to Earth Day 2025 🌱

This year’s theme — “Guard Your Green Space” — encouraged our pupils to reflect on the importance of protecting and nurturing the world around us. At CPHS, we took this as an opportunity to make a hands-on difference!

Our pupils have been designing and building bird homes for the winter months, using recycled wood and plenty of imagination. By creating safe spaces for local wildlife, we’re learning that small actions can make a big impact, and that sustainability begins with how we care for our own environment.

At CPHS, sustainability is embedded into every aspect of school life — from the classroom to the playground, in our projects, creativity, and community spirit. Together, we’re building a greener, kinder future🌿

At CPHS, we continue to set a gold standard in climate change and sustainability education, proudly hosting our first-ever Mock COP event (a smaller, local environmental conference that mirrors the format of the global Conference of the Parties (COP) climate summit), giving pupils the opportunity to take on the roles of world leaders and negotiators tackling the most pressing environmental challenges.

Supported by our school’s Sustainability Lead, Mrs Throup, and our pupil Climate Action Ambassadors, the event encouraged pupils to debate, collaborate, and take meaningful action on global sustainability issues.

In recognition of National Green Careers Week, pupils in Years 7 & 8 were also inspired by a presentation from Mr Day, Head of the Energy and Low Carbon Programme at Essex County Council, who spoke on the theme of Climate Change and Essex.

Following this, pupils then worked collaboratively to explore a range of global issues, including deforestation, extreme climate conditions, marine conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable transport. Each group developed country-specific action plans designed to tackle these challenges and contribute towards achieving net zero by 2050 🌍

This initiative aligns closely with the Department for Education’s recent paper, published this week following a curriculum and assessment review. The findings call for the introduction of a statutory measure to ensure a stronger focus on climate change and sustainability within the pre-16 curriculum, something CPHS is already championing through innovative practice and pupil-led action.
