Amazing Progress by our Reception Pupils
This week our Reception pupils have once again amazed us all with their academic progress. We are incredibly proud to report that
- 100% of our boys and girls achieved an EYFS ‘good level of development’ versus the national average of 70.7% in 2017. Additionally 7% of all the areas recorded as ‘exceeding’ and therefore above the expected levels for Reception age children.
- 83% of the pupils passed the Year 1 Phonics Test one year ahead with two pupils achieving a score of 38 and one a top score of 40. The national average pass rate in 2017 was 81% for Year 1 pupils.
These highly achieving results come on the back of their success at the Reception Hertfordshire Reading Test earlier this year where 100% of our 4 and 5 year old pupils achieved a reading age of over 7 years old, an average of 2 years above their chronological reading age. Two pupils achieved a reading age of over 8
Mr Young, Principal, said “We could not be prouder of the development of our Reception children. They have all worked incredibly hard this year and their progress is inspirational. At Colchester High School, we pride ourselves on giving our Reception pupils the best start to their educational journey and these results clearly evidence the success of our approach. By providing a structured formal education supplemented with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, our pupils are one year ahead academically, giving them the confidence and motivation to excel throughout their School life. We are so excited to see them develop and grow even further in Year 1.”
