The Music Department
Welcome to the Music Department at Colchester High School where our main aim is to promote and encourage the enjoyment of music in its many forms for everyone.
We provide a growing and exciting programme of activities, in and outside the classroom, which gives students opportunities to get involved in different forms of music-making at all levels throughout the school. Being involved in music activities enables our students to develop self-expression, cultural understanding, critical skills and social interaction. It also helps to increase self-esteem, self-discipline and creativity.
The Music Department is run by three passionate practising musicians (Miss Romero-Fernández, Miss Hammond and Mr Davis) who work closely together to enhance and improve the provision of music and organize all music events across the entire school. In addition, there are also seven peripatetic teachers who provide individual instrumental lessons every week.
Music plays a major part in the life of the school and students are encouraged to take part in the musical activities available. Currently we offer the following choice of extra-curricular activities: Prep Choir, Beat and rhythm (Y1 and Y2), Prep Performance workshop, Junior Choir, Junior African Drumming, Junior Junk Orchestra,Senior Choir, Senior school Band, Senior African Drumming, Y11 Composition club and School’s Production Singers/Band Rehearsals.
