Learning Support Department
We have an excellent Learning Support Department offering help to children with a wide range of barriers to learning.
The Learning Support Department takes pupils from all age ranges across the school. The continuity of support offered to pupils throughout their time at CHS enables us to know them as individuals and develop a full understanding of their difficulties and potential.
After liaison with their teachers and appropriate assessments, pupils are allocated time within the Department. They follow structured schemes tailored specifically to their needs. Some pupils come to the department in small groups, some for one-to-one lessons and some are supported in the classroom. As well as help with reading and spelling we also support the development of social skills, comprehension, working memory and fine motor skills.
For gifted and talented pupils the Department runs extension classes designed to challenge pupils to 'think outside the box'. Lessons include codebreaking, lateral thinking, Philosophy and research skills.
The Department has an open-door policy for pupils and parents with any concerns. We also maintain close links with a wide spectrum of Specialist Practitioners and use their guidance to inform our teaching.
