Performing Arts at CHS

Performing Arts at Colchester High School

The school has a dedicated performing Arts wing which was opened by reknown actor Griff Rhys-Jones in 2007. It has now been refurbished to add a new purpose built dance studio to add to the current drama suite and music room.

Music is an important part of school life here at Colchester High School.

The School has both Senior and Junior choirs as well as an Orchestra which practices weekly and gives several annual performances.  Many music clubs also run through the school including African Drumming and Percussion Clubs.

Lessons for many musical instruments are available with our peripatetic music teachers including brass, woodwind, keyboard, strings and percussion.

The sound of music does truly resound through our school, from the triumphant trumpet to the euphonic euphonium!

Drama is also centre stage, with ambitious productions which are always entertaining and involve large numbers of pupils not only acting but also helping with costumes, make-up, scenery, sound and lighting.

The Junior and Prep departments put on regular performances for parents at Christmas and at other times in the school year.

Dance Now the school can boast a new purpose built dance studio we aim to introduce this facility as part of the curriculum in school.
